The head of Committee of Administrators (COA), Vinod Rai, after the conclusion of his scheduled meeting with the skipper of Indian Cricket Team, termed the get-together as a fruitful one. This meeting came in the aftermath of unanimous displeasure with the recent hike in the salaries of the contracted players with the BCCI.

Rai also suggested that the involvement of an intermediate between the two parties wasn’t necessary and the interest of the players remains the priority of the Board. Ravi Shastri too had been vocal about the recent hike, as he boldly termed it as peanuts in comparison to Australian and the English players.

In an interview with PTI, Rai stated, “Let me make it clear at the very onset that any issue pertaining to players’ interest will be addressed with utmost seriousness. We will not leave any stone unturned in this regard. But the COA will directly deal with players and does not need any intermediaries. We met Virat and a few other players and it was a very fruitful discussion with them. We have already asked chief coach Anil Kumble to make a presentation. In fact, Virat also spoke about the presentation,”

Rai, along with other committee members namely Limaye, requested head coach Anil Kumble to make a presentation. “We met Virat and a few other players and it was a very fruitful discussion with them. We have already asked chief coach Anil Kumble to make a presentation. In fact, Virat also spoke about the presentation,” he added.

When enquired if the following appraisal in the central contract would be on the basis of Kumble’s presentation, Rai responded, “That I can’t tell you right now but like we doubled the retainership fee for the 2016-17, we would certainly work on it again. The player’s interest will be kept in mind.”

After COA’s meeting with BCCI office bearers Anirudh Chaudhry and Amitabh Chaudhary, Rai stated that, “Both the office bearers have promised total support and co-operation for smooth running of IPL”
