Virat Kohli is busy breaking all sorts of records. He recently equaled Mohammad Azharuddin for one of them and the former Indian captain is all praises for him. The current Indian skipper leveled the former in terms of Test centuries by an Indian captain. Azharuddin scored 9 centuries during his tenure and Virat scored his 9th as a captain yesterday.

Another great Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar holds the record for most centuries by a Test captain – 11, while Virat is joint second at 9 centuries with the man with the white helmet. The master blaster Sachin Tendulkar sits at fourth with seven centuries in twenty-five Tests.

Azharuddin managed to score nine Test centuries in 47 tests while Virat has scored the same in 24 Tests. While talking to Xtratime over the phone Azhar complimented Virat as world’s best batsman at present alongside Steve Smith. He said: “He is a very class player. I think he is the best player in the world at the moment along with Steve Smith. Virat along with Smith, Root and de Villiers are the best batsmen in the contemporary era. But with AB not playing tests these days, Virat is the best batsman at the moment in this format.”

The 28-year-old is hardly putting a foot wrong, he is in the form of his life and is set to break all kinds of records. When asked about the same Azhar said: “Records are meant to be broken and I think the form he is at the moment most batting records will tumble.”

He differentiated the best batsmen from good batsmen by claiming that the best can perform anywhere and everywhere, regardless of the situation. “The hallmark of a great player is to do well in any condition and under any situation. Virat has proved that time and again in recent times,” Azhar said.

The cricketer turned politician missed Virat’s magnificent inning. He was tied down in the capital with some work. “I only managed to watch him bat for a couple of overs towards the end. But the way he paced his innings was simply outstanding.”
