They finally got hitched on December 11 at a scenic venue Borgo Finocchieto in Italy in what was a secret affair attended by only a few close family and friends. Though they threw a couple of receptions on their return to the country which was also a huge affair. One of their receptions was in Delhi which was especially for family members and friends which some of the Indian cricketers also attended. The reception in Mumbai was a star-studded one with the whole Indian team attending the event and enjoying their time with the newlywed couple.

Soon after the marriage, the newlyweds travelled South Africa ahead of the New Year’s Eve and enjoyed their time even as the Test series commenced in the first week of January. The fans in the country were also equally excited as they prepared a poster of them and also was shown on the big screen when the Kohli was fielding in the deep during one of the One-Day Internationals. Even he wore a smile on his face after watching and responded to the fans.
