Virat Kohli bags the ICC Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy 2017

Indian captain Virat Kohli was honoured with the ICC Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy at the ICC Awards 2017 for displaying a spectacular brand of cricket in the past calendar year. He acquired the prestigious honour at the event for scoring tons of runs across the different formats of the game. Kohli also became the second Indian cricketer in two consecutive years to take this trophy home as his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin bagged the trophy in 2016 for some great performances in that year.
In 2017, Kohli racked up an impressive tally of 2203 runs in Tests at an average of 77.80, 1818 runs in ODIs at a healthy average of 82.63, which also includes fifteen international centuries to his name and also scored 299 runs in the shortest format as well. His aggression and the hunger to score runs in different pressure situations has played a major role in the regularity, which also rates him at par with some of the very great cricketers to have played this sport. Apart from his match-winning performances with the bat, he has been a successful leader of his team across different formats of the game and took the Indian team to the No.1 spot in both ICC Test and ODI rankings as well.
Virat Kohli becomes the Star of the Night at the ICC Awards 2017
The 29-year old was surely star of the evening at the ICC Awards 2017, as he was also named the ODI Player of the Year and was adjudged the captain of both ICC Test and ODI teams. The Indian captain is currently leading his team in the Test series against South Africa in the rainbow nation, where his team suffered a disappointing series defeat and are now on the verge of witnessing a whitewash at the hands of the opposition. In the amidst of the defeat, Kohli said that it certainly means a lot to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy and as well the other big awards too. The batsman stated that it is huge achievement to bag the biggest honour in world cricket.
“It means a lot to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for becoming the ICC Cricketer of the Year 2017 and also the ICC ODI Player of the Year. I won that back in 2012 also but it’s the first time winning the Garfield Sobers Trophy, and it’s a huge honour for me. It’s probably the biggest of all in world cricket and two Indians getting it back-to-back makes it more special,” said Kohli.
