Virat Kohli condemns the terror attack in Christchurch

He also wished for the well-being of the Bangladesh players.

New Zealand recently went through a rather tough phase of late. A gunman entered a mosque in Christchurch and started firing and it has resulted in the death of the number of people and the death toll in the occurring has been increasing ever since the shocking incident. The Bangladesh players, including Tamim Iqbal, went to the Al Noor Mosque for Friday Prayers.

However, they have managed to return unscathed. The cricketers weren’t allowed to come out of the bus after the shooting began. Later the Tigers’ players rushed to the Hagley Oval in Christchurch where they were locked inside the dressing room. Thereafter, the official twitter handle of New Zealand mentioned that the players have safely returned to the team hotel.

It was also learned that the third and final Test between Bangladesh and the Black Caps was called off. Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) has supported the decision. The Australia U19 women’s team was also present at the same hotel for their series against New Zealand U19 women. The incident has undoubtedly come as a shocker to the Bangladesh cricketers.

The likes of Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim tweeted about the same. Even the cricketing fraternity expressed grief over the issue. Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara, both of whom were the witness to the Sri Lankan bus-attack outside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, also opined on the matter. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern termed it one of New Zealand’s darkest days.

Virat Kohli has a message

In the meantime, Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, also expressed his grief surrounding the cowardly attack. Furthermore, the 30-year-old wished for the well-being of the Bangladesh players. Kohli took to Twitter and wrote, “Shocking and tragic. My heart goes out to the ones affected by this cowardly act at Christchurch. Thoughts with the Bangladesh team as well, stay safe,”
