India captain Virat Kohli guided his team to its second successive overseas ODI series victory inside a month and now looks forward to a well-earned break to recharge the batteries ahead of a busy season. On Monday, India handed New Zealand their third successive crushing defeat in the five-match ODI to pocket the series. Kohli called it a ‘clinical performance’ and credited the entire team for the show. The 30-year-old will skip the last two ODIs and also the three-game T20I series following them.

Kohli headed for holidaying with his 30-year-old actress wife Anushka Sharma who has been seen accompanying the cricketer time and again during the long tour of Australia and New Zealand that started in November. The India captain also posted a picture with his wife on Instagram where the two are seen outside a private jet. The location though was not known.

Here is Virat’s post

Kohli has been rested ahead/after big series in the past as well

This is not the first time that Kohli is taking a break in between series and games. Last year, he skipped a T20I tri-series in Sri Lanka after the tour of South Africa and the Asia Cup after the tour of England. He also did not play the T20Is against the Windies ahead of the tour Down Under. Rohit Sharma handled the captaincy in Kohli’s absence and he tasted a fair amount of success.

“I haven’t had a break for a long time. It’s been a very hectic Australian tour and now I go on a break very happy 3-0 up sealing the series,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

“I can relax and enjoy my break. Someday someone has to take your place and that’s how the game goes. I’m pretty happy contributing for the team as much as I can.”

Both India’s batsmen and bowlers have made vital contributions in the series against the Black Caps. While Shikhar Dhawan (169 runs), Rohit Sharma (160 runs) and Kohli (148 runs) himself led the scorers’ list, Kuldeep Yadav (8 wickets), Mohammed Shami (7) and Yuzvendra Chahal (6) have been India’s top performers in the bowling department.
