Ever since Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) captain Ravichandran Ashwin ‘Mankaded’ Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Jos Buttler in a game in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 in Jaipur on March 25, cricket has not been the same. Shadow of that controversial episode has loomed large in a number of games subsequently though none of the later incidents went sour. The latest happening about a non-striking batsman evading a ‘Mankading’ is Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli against Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Friday.

It was the last ball of the 18th over of the RCB innings which was being bowled by spinner Sunil Narine. He approached the crease to bowl the delivery but didn’t at the last moment. Kohli, who was at the non-striker’s end, was well within the crease and as Narine walked back, the RCB captain made a funny gesture, squatting and putting the bat into the crease. The commentators were in splits seeing Kohli’s action and the RCB skipper, who hit a magnificent hundred in the match, was also seen laughing. The RCB’s score at that time was 178 for three.

Kohli’s fifth century in the IPL came after he had hit four in the 2016 season and the KKR were at the receiving end. RCB scored a daunting total of 213 for 4 in 20 overs. Kohli, who opened the innings, scored 100 off 58 deliveries while Moeen Ali hit 66 off 28 balls. AB de Villiers did not play in this match. The record of scoring the most centuries in the IPL belongs to KXIP’s Chris Gayle who has six and fell short of his seventh by a run recently.

Here is the video of Virat Kohli’s funny mankading gesture:

Stuart Binny also made a funny gesture over evading ‘Mankading’ recently

Coming back to Kohli’s gesture at evading ‘Mankading’, RR’s Stuart Binny also did something similar while playing the KXIP in their return game in Mohali a few days ago. Mohammed Shami was the bowler on that occasion. Binny had leapt into the crease seeing Shami pulling out of bowling and walking back, giving a clear impression that he was not game to go Buttler’s way.
