The 10th edition of the IPL is underway as defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the injury plagued Royal Challengers of Bangalore in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Bangalore. Virat Kohli had been sidelined during the first match and many more matches to come as he picked up an injury to the shoulder while fielding in the 3rd Test match at Ranchi against Australia.

Virat Kohli, while speaking to Sony broadcaster and commentator Sanjay Manjerekar commented that he does not want to rush things by taking the field and aggravating his injury as the Champions Trophy is round the corner.

While speaking with Manjrekar, Kohli commented,”I don’t want to take any chances with Champions Trophy coming up. I want to be 120% fit,”

Also in the interview, he pronounced that national duties come first and the rest comes later. He went on to say that that it is an anomaly for him to miss out a game for the Royal Challengers as the last time he missed one was way back in 2008 during the inaugural season of the IPL. He also presumed that missing out on the 4th Test match against the series decider against Australia helped ease the frustration.

Quoting the RCB skipper, “Last time I missed a game for RCB was in first season (2008). I have been playing for 8 to 9 years (for RCB). That is little bit weird (not to play). I missed a Test match (against Australia in Dharamsala). It is not that frustrating.”

Meanwhile in the match, The Sunriser Hyderabad resumed were they left off the previous season with the bat. The Royal Challengers have their task cut out as the Sunrisers set a target of 208 runs with the help of blitzkrieg from Moises Henriques and Yuvraj Singh. The left-handed batsmen scored an explosive 67 off just 27 balls while the Australian scored a brisk 52 off 35 balls.
