Virat Kohli, arguably India’s most important member in the side, has finally put out his list of six players to watch out for in the upcoming World T20. Previously, Yuvraj Singh had also picked his six players.
Virat Kohli’s six includes three of his teammates from his Indian Premier League side, the Royal Challengers Bangalore. These players include Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Shane Watson. Jamaican batsman Chris Gayle has been in brilliant form of late. Having decided not to play with the Windies in the longer formats, Gayle has travelled the world, playing domestic T20 tournaments in over 4 countries. His big hitting ability has seen him become a fan favorite among the Indian T20 faithful.
AB de Villiers has, for some peculiar reason, become a batsman for all seasons. His effective shot making and his ability to invent strokes to good effect is perhaps the main reason why the Proteas are dark horses in the tournament. Shane Watson, the Aussie all-rounder who has become the latest addition to the RCB squad in the recent auction also features as one of Virat Kohli’s pick. Watson, whose T20 career seemed done and dusted, now has breathed life into his crippling career with some amazing performances of late.
Virat Kohli’s Indian teammates MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin are also on the list while former Sri Lankan skipper Lasith Malinga completes the list for Kohli. MS Dhoni has been the alpha and omega of Indian cricket ever since his inclusion in the side all those years ago in 2004. After taking over the reins of captaincy in 2007, MS Dhoni has become the most popular player in cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin has been India’s key bowler in the recent past in T20Is. Apart from picking up wickets at regular intervals, Ashwin also has the ability to keep the scoring rate down.
In spite of a poor Asia Cup performance, Lasith Malinga also features in Virat Kohli’s big six. The former Sri Lankan skipper has been ruled out of the initial matches. However, the man who guided Sri Lankan side to victory in the World T20 in 2014 will be expected to make a return towards the later part of the group stages.
