The 2001 Natwest Series Final between India and England won’t fade away from the memories because of the moments attached to the epic contest. After India’s stupendous victory, Sourav Ganguly, the then Indian captain went shirtless and twirled it in the air to celebrate India’s victory. The former captain now said that Virat Kohli will repeat the act if India manages to lift the World Cup in England and Wales.
“HE (Virat) WILL TAKE HIS SHIRT OFF IN OXFORD STREET… We better get our cameras ready. Kohli has his six packs. I won’t be surprised if he takes his shirt off.” Dada was quoted as saying to India Today. The current skipper also obliged to Ganguly’s word, however, mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have the physique to perform the act.
Virat Kohli rolls back the years
“I don’t think it will only be me. For sure, Hardik will be following me. 120 percent. Bumrah is there as well because he has six packs too. He is there in the game. There will be a few candidates,” Kohli said to the media. Virat Kohli also reminisced the historic day when India raised themselves from the slump and emerged victorious against Nasser Hussain’s men.
Marcus Trescothick and Hussain racked up centuries to amass a mammoth target of 325 runs for India to chase. India had a disastrous start having lost five wickets with not many runs on the board. Most Indians would have switched off their TV sets, so did Virat Kohli. He remembered how he went off to sleep after which he was greeted by the shock of his life.
India finally managed to humble the hosts courtesy of a stupendous partnership between Mohammed Kaif and Yuvraj Singh.”I clearly remember that night. The game started brilliantly. Those totals were very difficult to get. I slept off when we were five down. I went off to sleep. My brother woke me up and he said we were winning. I was like: ‘what are you talking about?” the skipper of the Royal Challengers Bangalore added.
