Virat Kohli had scored over a thousand Test runs in 2017 but he continues to improve from his previous self and has clearly done that in 2018. While he scored 1059 runs in 10 Tests last year, he already has 1063 runs in as many matches and will still play three games before the end of the calendar year. The first of those is at the Adelaide Oval where he boasts of a pretty rich record and has a Bradmanesque average.

On his third tour of Australia, Kohli has played four matches at the venue and has scored 394 runs which scales up to an unbelievable average of 98.5. Which means he has adopted perfectly to the surface here and not a lot has changed since the last time he played here. The 30-year-old has scored three centuries in these matches and thus the hosts will come out with specific plans against the Indian captain.

Kohli on top

Last time he was in Australia, the batting mainstay scored 692 runs in 4 Tests with four centuries and a fifty. He averaged 86.5 and was just behind his opposite number Steve Smith on the run-scoring list.

Thus far in the year, he was at the top of his game on the tour of South Africa scoring 286 runs in three Test matches and had an average of 47.67. Then there was the challenge in England, the only spot on his career. He went there and conquered it forever. Kohli erased his unforgettable record of scoring 134 runs in 10 innings by scoring 593 runs in as many outings. It was powered by two tremendous tons and ended with an average just around 60.

He still looked pretty fluent in the first outing against Cricket Australia XI in the warm-up game and contributed 64. Though he would not be satisfied with a half century was still a good enough practice ahead of the Adelaide Test.
