The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has revealed that he used to run away from Bishan Singh Bedi when he was a young cricketer and was scared of him. The fact seems amazing to hear as he is currently shattering the world records with his bat and has been a driving force to the success of the Indian team from last few years. Moreover, he has taken his game a level higher since taking over the reins of the team and has been leading from the front. However, he was felicitated at the hands of Bedi himself during the inaugural annual conclave of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

DDCA had arranged the felicitation ceremony of the cricketers who served Delhi and went on to play for India at the highest level during their illustrious careers. The ceremony was attended by all the current and former Delhi cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Ishant Sharma, Chetan Chauhan, Madan Lal, Mohinder Amarnath among many others. Kohli received a citation, Delhi cap and a special trophy for his contribution to the cricket in the country.

He made us train too much

Virat Kohli was delighted after being felicitated at the hands of Bishan Singh Bedi and revealed some of the interesting insights on how he used to be scared of the legendary cricketer during his U15 or U17 cricket. Though he also thanked for stressing the importance of fitness in his life so early in his career. He also hoped that he would continue to keep doing the hard work and bring laurels to the country.

“It is indeed an honour to receive the award from Bishan sir. From not understanding the importance of fitness and running away from him in under-15, under-17, under-19 cricket only because he made us train too much to becoming… my life right now is something he has been doing for ages now. So many people have been able to succeed because of that. Thank you, sir,” he said after receiving the trophy.

“When I started coming to this association to play cricket, like all my friends and teammates, I used to see the superstars of Delhi cricket and legends. I have learnt so much from them and aspired to be like them. To be able to be among them as India cricket captain is indeed an honour. Hopefully I can keep doing the work that I am able to do till now along with my team.

“I hope to bring many more laurels to the country and inspire many kids to take up Test cricket, which is paramount for cricket to sustain globally and in our country. Whoever is there I would urge them, want them to take up Test cricket. My message to all the youngsters coming up in Delhi circles is to take up the longer format,” the Indian skipper added.
