Indian captain Virat Kohli is on cloud nine following the whitewash over Sri Lanka. The Indian team won all the three Test matches convincingly and never looked like they were under any kind of pressure. On the occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day, the skipper wished all the citizens of the country and also added that it is a special day for him since it is also his father’s birthday.

Virat also shared his childhood memories with his fans. He recalled the days when as a kid he would fly kites and play around with his friends and family. Team India will now take part in the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka and the mood in the dressing room must be high flying. The skipper especially credited all-rounder Hardik Pandya for his all-round performance throughout the series. Pandya scored a fifty in his debut game and backed it with his maiden hundred in his very first Test series.

Apart from Pandya, openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul too joined the run scorers map. The left-handed batsman was adjudged the Player of the Series for his brilliant performance with the bat. Dhawan scored 2 centuries in the series- 190 in the first innings of the 1st Test, where he got a life while batting on 31 but didn’t look back from there on; next one in the final game.

The spin-duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested following the heavy workload and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav and leggie Yuzvendra Chahal has been included to replace them. There were reports about Kohli not taking part in the series but the skipper has rubbished all those news and will lead his side against the Lankans.

Middle-order batsman Manish Pandey and pacer Shardul Thakur has been brought into the squad for the limited-overs leg of the tour. Pandey and Thakur had a memorable tri-nation series in South Africa and they have been rewarded for their performance.
