The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has smashed a double century in the ongoing second Test match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. This is his fifth double century in whites and has joined another Indian stalwart Rahul Dravid who also has the same number of double centuries to his name. Sachin Tendulkar has scored the as many as six 200s and is at the top of the list. The 29-year-old brought up his double ton off just 259 deliveries as his knock was studded with 15 fours and two sixes. However, Twitter was overjoyed with yet another stupendous knock of the captain fantastic.
He reached his 19th Test century just after the first hour in the morning and continued to torment the Sri Lankan bowling attack. His innings has been absolutely flawless and has annihilated the visitors. Dinesh Chandimal led side had no plans against him and kept on dishing easy deliveries to him. Moreover, his strike rate was impressive right through and the run-rate never dipped since he strode out to the middle. He hit boundaries in all the corners of the Stadium and his cover drives with a whip of the wrists were absolutely pleasing to the eye.
The boisterous crowd on a super Sunday were treated with an absolutely belligerent batting effort from Team India and Virat Kohli. He extended India’s lead and literally batted Sri Lanka out of the game.
India lead by more than 350
Only KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane missed out on a batting beauty as even Rohit Sharma also is nearing a century in his comeback game. Sri Lanka is only waiting for the declaration to come and it will most likely happen after a superb hundred from Rohit. Though the ease with which Virat Kohli brought up his fifth double ton was the talking point right through the Indian innings.
Twitter absolutely enjoyed the masterclass from captain Kohli as he continues to raise the bar of his as every game passes by.
Here’s how they hailed the superman of modern cricket:
And the man does it again, makes batting look ridiculously easy. 50th double century for India in Test cricket and the man has his 5th in quick time. Salute Virat Kohli
