After the loss in Cape Town, India now face the scare of another overseas series defeat. While the Indian team vows to come back stronger, Virender Sehwag feels it’s unlikely. The former opener felt that the visitors only have a 30 percent chance of staging a fightback in the series.

Sehwag reflected upon the conditions in Centurion and the combination India should go in with. He further enlightened what will be key facet for the team ahead of the second Test. The ‘Nawab Of Najafgarh’ was a part of the team that last defeated South Africa at home.

Only 30 percent chance of India making a comeback

Sehwag holds an opinion that India’s chances of staging a turnaround in the series seemed bleak. Asserting that it was going to be a tough challenge for Virat Kohli and his men, he urged them to make a decision on the pitch with respect to the conditions there.

“As of now, it looks like only 30 percent chance is there of making a comeback. It is going to be very tough from now on. Also the Indian team management should look whether conditions at the Centurion warrant a place for Ravichandran Ashwin,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by India TV.

The former Indian opener suggested that Ajinkya Rahane could be the solution to their batting troubles. He also emphasised the importance of Virat and Rohit Sharma scoring runs if they were to win.

“India can go in with an extra batsman in Ajinkya Rahane. They should also try to go in with four specialist bowlers. If India want to win, Virat and Rohit will need to play a big role,” Viru added.

During the Cape Town Test, a lot of Indian batsmen repeated the same mistakes. The likes of Kohli, Murali Vijay poked at deliveries outside off and ended up losing their wickets. Sehwag pointed out the same and advised the batsmen to go for straight shots.

He stated that due to the bounce on South African pitches, there was a lesser chance of getting bowled and advised them to maintain a run rate of around 3 runs per over and keep a positive intent.
