Virender Sehwag takes back the field after ages, scores a magnificent half century

Sehwag scored 62 from 31 balls to give his team a big first innings total.

The veteran cricketers, who have made a name for themselves have come together for a unique cricket contest. While the sport has been played around the world in most continents, this is the first time cricket is played on ice at this level. The two-game tournament between Virender Sehwag-led Diamonds XI and Shahid Afridi-led Royals. The match is a unique one for the fans.

The toss fell in favour of Sehwag and he asked the opposition to bowl first. Playing professional cricket after a long gap is in itself a challenge what adds to the task is, they are playing on the ice. For Palace Diamonds, Viru and Sri Lankan star Tillakaratne Dilshan started the proceedings with the bat. After losing Dilshan early, Sehwag was expected to anchor the innings while playing to his strengths.

He tried to build up a partnership with the guys to follow but none expect him really got going. Losing three wickets for just 56 runs, Sehwag and former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds took charge thereafter. They rotated the strike and hammered the loose ball. Sehwag along with Symonds went on to construct a solid partnership and gave his fans a knock to cherish.

Sehwag played in his own style and score a blistering half-century. He scored 62 runs off just 31 balls at an astonishing strike-rate of 200. His innings was laced with 4 boundaries and 5 mighty sixes. On the other hand, Symonds was the second highest scorer with 40 runs in just 30 balls. On the back of their stand, Viru’s team posted a par looking total of 164 runs, and that seemed good enough at the halfway mark.

However, Owais Shah spoiled their party as he played a thunderous knock of 74 and took his team over the line with 6 wickets and 28 balls to spare.
