India will take on the Windies for the second game of the ongoing five-match ODI series in Visakhapatnam with an eye on extending the lead they took in Guwahati last Sunday. India’s batters played exceedingly well to register a thumping eight-wicket win over the visitors even after they were given a target of 323. Both captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma slammed big hundreds to see India wrapping up the game with almost eight overs to spare.

India will, however, be a tad concerned over their bowlers except Yuzvendra Chahal (3 for 41) went for high economy rates in the game in Guwahati. The Windies’ batsmen played the Indian bowlers well to post a good score which, however, their own bowlers failed to defend. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar feels the hosts might have to think afresh about their bowling line-up for the second ODI given the fact that the venue has a spin-friendly strip to offer and the legendary batsman has Kuldeep Yadav‘s name in his mind.

“Vizag has a pitch that helps the spinners and so the bowlers may not get the tonking they did in Guwahati, but that’s always a good experience to learn from. Should India bring in Kuldeep?” Gavaskar wrote in his column for the Times of India on October 24.

Kuldeep troubled Hetmyer in the Test series

Sunil Gavaskar reminded that Shimron Hetmyer, who scored a ton for the Caribbeans in the first game, was troubled a number of times by Kuldeep in the recently concluded Test series. “Shimron Hetmyer, who got a brilliant hundred at Guwahati, was snaffled thrice in the Tests by the left-handed chinaman bowler. So, who to leave out is the headache for the team management. Fortunately, these are mild ones compared to when it is a question of who to pick.”

Kuldeep recently earned the rare feat of five-wicket hauls in all three formats of the game – Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Only Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the other Indian bowler who has the same feat and it will be interesting to see if the chinaman gets a nod ahead of any fast bowler in the line-up.
