VVS Laxman, who currently is an analyst with Star Sports, praised Cricket Association of Bengal chief Sourav Ganguly for managing the situations brilliantly at Eden Gardens yesterday after the rains affected the start of the Indo-Pak clash.
The much anticipated India-Pakistan encounter at the Eden Gardens finally took place. The match turned out to be an exciting low scoring affair where India emerged victorious and continued its dominance over its arch rivals in World Cup events.
The match, however, wasn’t smooth as rains had threatened to wash out the match. It was raining from the morning at Kolkata. Dark clouds, strong winds and flashes of lightning made the eager fans nervous and eventually delayed the play by more than an hours time.
However, the Eden Gardens management and staff did a wonderful job. The groundstaff were the real heroes who sat on the covers under drizzles to avert covers from flying due to heavy winds. Sourav Ganguly6, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) Cheif was in the middle and took care each every aspect to ensure that the ground gets ready at the earliest for the marquee clash to begin.
Also, CAB had organised a short special felicitation function where Ganguly had invited cricketing legends Imran Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Waqar Younis, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Wasim Akram. The ceremony also saw West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. The national anthem sung by Amitabh Bachchan and Shafqat Amanat Ali made fans feel even more special.
Well done @SGanguly99 &CAB for being prepared&taking necessary precautions for rain after what happened in Oct in the Ind-Sa series?? @BCCI
