VVS Laxman to continue as batting consultant for Bengal team

Arun Lal will continue as the chief coach of the senior Bengal team for the 2021-22 season.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has extended VVS Laxman’s contract as batting consultant of the Bengal cricket team. The former Indian batter was appointed for the post in the CAB’s vision 2020 project. Meanwhile, the former all-rounder and Bengal skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla is also expected to be appointed as the U-23 team coach.

Considering the performances of Sourasish Lahiri with the U-23 Bengal men’s team, he has been promoted as the assistant coach of the senior Bengal team. On the other hand, former Bengal speedster Shib Shankar Paul has been given the mantle of being the bowling coach for all the Bengal squads. Utpal Chatterjee is also confirmed to continue as the spin bowling coach.

“In addition to above, contract of Former Indian Stalwart, VVS Laxman, which was expiring in October 2021 as the Batting Consultant, has been extended till March 2022. Utpal Chatterjee would continue to be the spin bowling coach for all the Bengal squads,” an official statement of CAB stated.

About Bengal’s Women coaching staff, Rituparna Roy is being appointed as the head coach of the side while Charanjit Singh would be their assistant coach. In the meantime, Snehashis Ganguly, the Secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) hoped that the Bengal team reaches heights under the watchful eyes of highly experienced personnel and that the team would benefit from it.

“We have made some new appointments keeping in mind their merit and talents. We want Bengal cricket to shine and we have made changes that we deemed fit to that end. We wish the new appointees all the best and hope they can get the best out of the various Bengal teams,” said CAB Secretary Snehashis Ganguly, also the brother of BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

Before making the announcement on the series of new appointments for the Bengal cricket team, previously, the CAB had announced that Arun Lal would continue the duties of being the chief coach of the senior cricket team of Bengal for the 2021-22 season.
