Waqar Younis and Sachin Tendulkar celebrate their international debuts

On 15th November 15, the National Stadium, Karachi was quickly filling up with spectators. India was gearing up to face Pakistan on a green track and the atmosphere was energetic everywhere. But, what grabbed the headlines of news channels all over the world was that a certain Sachin Tendulkar was making his debut. Everyone in Pakistan wanted to know about prodigal schoolkid who was going to play his first test match at the age of just 16 years old and was just over five feet in height.

That match kick-started a wonderful cricketing journey spanning over two and a half decade which saw Tendulkar amass 5,921 at 53.78 with a record 51 centuries and 68 half-centuries in 200 Tests.  It has been 27 years since the Indian legend made his debut and cricket fans all over the world were busy celebrating the special day.

Incidentally, Pakistani fast bowling legend Waqar Younis also made his debut in the same match and gave a tough time to the teenage Indian prodigy with his lightning quick bowling. The memories of the debut match are still fresh and Waqar Younis today made sure to celebrate the occasion with his counterpart.

Tendulkar also expressed his happiness and tweeted:“Playing for the country was always a dream. What a memorable moment it was! Time has flown quickly indeed, but you weren’t any slower either.”
