Wasim Akram, more recently has been roped in by the PCB to find a new head coach. However, before that, the legendary left-arm pace said that it wasn’t sensible that the Pakistan side appointed three captains across the three different formats, stating that the Pakistan culture was different. He also mentioned that it was important to have just one leader or a captain across all formats.

“In Pakistan cricket culture is different. I don’t think it is sensible to have three different captains because in our set-up when we don’t properly follow one leader, how do you expect players to follow three different leaders,” he said on Geo News channel.

“I would like to see one captain for all three formats and this would be ideal for our cricket,” he added.

Akram also said that it wasn’t important to recruit only a foreign coach, stating that the all round development of Pakistan cricket was the most important agenda at the moment.

“I have no preset ideas or mindset. We have an open mind to all options. Regardless of whether we have a foreign or local coach, one thing is clear the candidate must come with a proper understanding of Pakistan cricket and a full plan to improve the cricket set-up,” he said.

Akram was also critical of some of the comments made by the senior player Mohammad Hafeez. He also added that if Hafeez had anything to say, he could do so after calling time on his career.

“I think if he has any issues he should go and speak to the PCB Chairman directly and not go in the media. After all, he is still playing and is a centrally contracted player,” Akram said.

“I am not in favour of centrally contracted and active players sitting on the media,” he stated.
