Former legendary fast bowler and captain of the Pakistan national team, Wasim Akram withdrew his charges from the case he had filed two years ago regarding an alleged firing on his car in Karachi on Tuesday. During a court session, the World-Cup winning member in 1992 said that the case was filed due to a misunderstanding between both parties and he didn’t wish to continue the matter legally anymore.

“The case was filed on the basis of a misunderstanding. However, both parties have reached an amicable agreement and I don’t want to pursue the matter in court,” Akram was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune. The court has approved Akram’s request to terminate the case. A bailable arrest warrant was issued against Akram last week for not showing up in the court on numerous occasions to record his statement.

The former captain missed as many as 31 court hearings which led the Judicial Magistrate-East to once again issue a new hearing date on January 17. Akram had registered FIR No 218/15 at the Bahadurabad Police Station on three unidentified men for an alleged gun firing on his car on 5th August 2015. The former cricketer had professed that he had been shot on Karachi’s Karsaz Road while he was going to attend a bowling camp at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Bullets were fired towards Akram’s car after the former left-arm quickie chased a car who had hit his car during a routine accident and fled following the incident. It was later found out that the car was registered under the name of a certain Major (retd) Amirul Rehman. It is believed that his personal guard had fired at Akram. He accepted the apology gleefully but not before demanding his driving arms and licence to be abolished immediately.

He was also a captain per excellence and led his nation to many memorable victories. He was also instrumental in the Asian Giant’s one and only World Cup triumph till date in 1992.
