Watch: AB de Villiers smokes one out of the stadium

All eyes were glued to the South African batting superstar AB de Villiers when the Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Kings XI Punjab at Indore. AB had missed the first two matches of the season due to a slight niggle that he had picked prior to the commencement of the finals of the South African domestic one-day tournament. His services were largely missed by the RCB camp.

When skipper Shane Watson announced that AB de Villiers would be making his comeback in the match, the fans were thrilled to bits. Their excitement and thrill only got magnified as the Proteas batsman starred with the bat on the day. He waged a lone battle for the RCB batting line up that was dwindling with every passing over.

The wickets fell like ten-pins and there seemed to be no batsman who could provide some support to AB. However, the veteran batsman did not let the pressure creep and almost single-handedly took the team total to 148 in their stipulated 20 overs. He came in to bat at number 3 and remained unbeaten on 89 when the innings concluded.

His 89 came off just 46 deliveries and the knock was studded with 3 fours and 9 sixes. The highlight of his innings was the 9 maximums that he clubbed during the match. The best was perhaps the last one that came off the last ball of the innings. He made the adage of ‘save the best for the last’ come true in every sense of the word.

RCB were placed at 136 in 19.4 overs as KXIP bowler Mohit Sharma ran into bowl the last two deliveries. De Villiers smoked one in the stands on the fifth delivery. The final delivery was even better. Mohit Sharma bowled it wide outside the off stump. AB de Villiers got into brilliant position and made an early shuffle. He then got down on his knee and hammered it over the midwicket stands.

The ball kept going and going and ended up sailing over the roof of the stadium.
