Andre Russell

Andre Russell is known for his big hitting ability. The West Indian all-rounder is a regular feature of T20 leagues around the world owning his belligerent style of batting. Well capable to taking the game away from the opposition in a matter of a few overs, Russell uses the long handle to great effect. Along with his batting, his fast bowling and athletic fielding make him an impact player. In a tour game against the Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra, he played a belligerent knock to nearly pull off an improbable chase.

Batting first the home team scored 333/6 in the 50-over match. In reply, the West Indies looked in a strong position having gone past 200 from 36 overs. With 7 wickets in hand, the visitors must have fancied their chances of overhauling the huge target, however, two quick wickets saw them slide to 225/5 in the 41st over. Russell walked in and did what he does best. Smashing sixes and fours at will he kept his team in the game. Ricky Ponting, leading the Prime Minister’s XI had a tough time setting fields attempting to stop the Russell onslaught.

The first hit from the West Indian was a huge maximum over the mid-wicket boundary. Known for his golf-like swing of the bat, Russell toyed with the bowling and kept swinging his arms. An over-pitched ball was either smashed along the ground or deposited in the stands. He was eventually dismissed for a breathtaking 54 off just 24 balls that included 3 fours and 5 massive sixes. His team made 310 and fell short by 23 overs being bowled out in 49 overs.
