Watch: Ashton Agar takes a sharp catch in BBL

Perth Scorchers were in desperate need of wickets as they sought to defend a score of 151/6 against Adelaide Strikers in their Big Bash League tie; it was then that the Scorchers’ Ashton Agar fielding in the deep pulled off this blinder just two balls after seamer Nathan Coulter-Nile had left the park with a dislocated shoulder.

Strikers skipper Brad Hodge was the unlucky batsman as Agar ran backwards at midwicket before leaping and arching his back to pluck the ball out of air two-handed. His momentum took him tumbling to the turf but even then he didn’t lose control of the ball, Agar completed a backwards roll before holding his arms aloft in celebration.

Agar has been in good form with both bat and ball. He recently credited former Australian cricketer Justin Langer for backing the youngster. “I’ve put a lot of work into my batting, so it’s really pleasing I’m getting some results for it,” Agar said.

“Justin Langer has been fantastic. He’s helped me keep it nice and simple, and a little bit tighter with my technique. It does feel good to make some runs.

“I’ve always had a belief in my batting. I probably wouldn’t play cricket if I didn’t bat and bowl. It’s a lot more fun when you’re consistently involved in the game.” he said

“I wouldn’t want to stand around in the field all day without bowling, and I certainly wouldn’t want to just be sitting in the sheds waiting to bat way down the order” he added
