Steve Smith has proved to be the biggest obstacle for the Indian team; the Australian skipper has scored over 500 runs in the 4-match Test series with three centuries. Whenever the Aussies batting has looked in trouble he has bailed them out and pushed the Indians on the back foot. The Indians were on top after David Warner was dismissed cheaply by Umesh Yadav.

Smith walked out to join Matt Renshaw who has also shown his stubborn side right through this series. He was off with a boundary and the Indians would have been worried as he looked pretty comfortable at the crease. Both Umesh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the other end were bowling really well moving the ball around and keeping the batsmen in check with some accurate bouncers.

On-air commentator former Australian opener Matthew Hayden was quite vocal about the fact that the hosts haven’t quite managed to devise a plan to get rid of the Aussie skipper. Smith has been batting at his very best and the Indian bowlers have failed to put together a strategy to edge past his unorthodox yet solid technique.

After conceding a boundary in the over with a short of length delivery Bhuvi stuck to the same tactic and bowled another short ball outside his off stump. Smith sensed an opportunity and was clear he wanted to pull the ball but couldn’t quite connect. It took the lower edge of his bat and was deflected straight onto his stump.

The off-stump that he so efficiently guarded (left open just once against Ravindra Jadeja) was off the ground and the Indian team was ecstatic, they knew how important Smith’s wicket was for their ideas to be implemented. Australian batsmen thereafter failed to show any resistance except Glenn Maxwell who scored 45. Yadav, Ravi Ashwin, and Jadeja shared 3 wickets each to bowl out the Aussies for 137 which means India need just 105 runs to win the Test and the series.

BCCI posted the video of the dismissal on their Facebook page, watch it here:
