Cricketing carnival Caribbean Premier League kick started a few days back and it’s already has become a huge hit. The CPL feature the best entertainers of the game and there is no shortage of big hitter. And, one such big hitter who set ablaze the stage was West Indian Devon Thomas.
The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots clashed with the Jamaica Tallawahs at their home ground in Basseterre. The game wasn’t a high scoring one particularly. But, there were individual brilliance. Chris Gayle and Andre Russell struck runs at a strike rate of over 140 and 170 respective to take their team Jamaica Tallawahs to a respectable 153/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots had a bad start and their chase never took off as wickets fell in short successions. But, the second innings wasn’t dull overall. All-rounder Devon Thomas came n at number – 8 and smashed a 7 ball 25 runs knock at the end. Unfortunately, his contribution wasn’t enough as his team still lost the game narrowly by 5 runs.
The highlight of his blazing cameo was the hat-trick of sixes which he hit against Allen in the last over. 30 runs were required off the last over which instigated Thomas to go full throttle at the bowler. He was successful to a large extent as he gathered 24 runs from it including three sixes in a row off the 3rd, 4th and 5th ball. It would a heroic tie between both the teams if Thomas had managed to pull off Carlos Brathwaite’s World t20 final feat. Unfortunately, he could only pick two runs off the last ball which was low full toss.
