Watch: A good reflex catch from Ravindra Jadeja sends back David Warner

After getting off to a brilliant start in the 3rd Test against India, Australia lost their 1st wicket in the 10th over of the match as left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja provided the hosts with the much-needed breakthrough in his very first over.

It wasn’t a great delivery by any stress of imagination, but swashbuckling southpaw David Warner couldn’t keep the full toss down and chipped in straight back to the bowler. The greatest fielder in the Indian team completed a terrific reflex catch which gave the chance to run through the middle order.

The opening session belonged to the hosts where they picked up 3 wickets and conceded a tad over 100 runs. Matt Renshaw looked in good touch before giving away his wicket to Umesh Yadav. Shaun Marsh too fell with lunch just within sight to reduce the visitors to 109/3 in 30 overs.

The visitors toiled pretty hard in the 2nd session and lost just a solitary wicket in the process. Captain Steve Smith and comeback man Glenn Maxwell looked in complete control of proceedings and it looked pretty difficult to dislodge the gritty customers.

In the final session of the day, Australia consolidated their position of strength and ended the day’s play comfortably placed at 299/4. Steve Smith smashed his 19th Test century of his career while hard-hitter Maxwell remained unbeaten on 82. At the end day, the duo added 159 unbeaten runs for the 5th wicket which might prove to be the nail in the coffin for the hosts as far as the 3rd Test is concerned.

The Indian bowlers bowled their heart out but the pitch was pretty unresponsive and wasn’t conducive for neither the pacers nor the spinners. The ball came nicely on to the bat on a consistent basis and run-scoring became pretty easy after getting in. Umesh Yadav was the pick of the Indian bowlers with a couple of wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a wicket each.
