The talismanic Kevin Pietersen has been at loggerheads with the ECB since a long time and never leaves an opportunity to lambaste the Board for its selection policies and rightly so. A victim of ECB’s politics, KP’s playing career was cut short abruptly. One of England’s greatest batsmen ever, when dropped KP was still scoring runs and entertaining fans around the world with his belligerent batting. Fans may never get to see him play again for England however his war of words on Twitter with the ECB is sure to keep them engrossed.
KP, wearing a fancy green cap, appears in a serious mood and vents out his frustration at the non-inclusion of Bell. Pointing out the fact that Bell has played over 100 Test matches, he appears flummoxed that the classy right-hander was not picked for a big tour like this. He reckons that against the number one side in the world dropping a player of Bell’s calibre is pretty annoying. According to him, Bell may not have scored many runs of late however his experience will be handy against the world’s best bowling lineup. Ridiculing the decision of the selectors he launches an attack on the current captain Alastair Cook stating that the southpaw did not score runs for 2 years yet has kept playing for England. KP has himself been in prolific form in South Africa’s domestic T20 competition and may be his own non-inclusion in the England team got him to express his anger on Twitter against the ECB.
A veteran of 114 Tests, Ian Bell was dropped from the England team that is scheduled to play 4 Tests against the number one side in this format. Add to this the fact that the matches will be played in South Africa and one can only be surprised at such a decision taken by the English selectors. South Africa has a world-class bowling lineup and hence is the best Test team in the world. Bell’s class and experience would have surely helped England in this grueling series. On the challenging pitches of South Africa, his technique could have withstood the pressure put by the opposition bowlers.
