Cricket is a game of skills but luck surely plays a huge role. It has many has many strange ways of helping players. Sometimes, it results in weird incidents like the one which happened during the Natwest T20 Blast contest between Northants versus Warwickshire.

Generally, quick stumping results in batsmen getting out.; But, Alex Wakely was saved by the super fast reaction of wicket keeper Mathew Wade. The incident happened in the 14th over of the game when Wakely missed a wild slog off Aaron Thomason bowling.

The bat slipped off the batsmen’s hand in the follow through and fell behind on the stumps. This meant that he should have been shown the way towards the dugout. But, here’s the twist. Wade did not even take half a second to collect the ball and whip off the bails.

Unfortunately, he did it before Wakely’s bat could fall on the stumps. As a result, the stumps were already disturbed and an appeal for hit wicket was senseless. The decision was referred to the third umpire to sort out any confusion. The batsman was safely inside the box so there was no question of a stumping chance and the third umpire clearly showed the not out signal.

This proved fatal for the Warwickshire side as Wakely clobbered their bowler at a strike rate of around 230. The right-hander made an unbeaten 53 off just 23 balls to help his side scorecard balloon to a formidable 200/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Warwickshire, in reply, were skittled out for just 126 after suffering a batting collapse. The chase began well for them with openers Sam Hain and In Bell putting up 60 for the 1st wicket. However, Graeme White and Seekuge Prasanna then snapped seven wickets between then to rattle the opposition, helping their team register an emphatic 74 run win.
