Watch: Mitchell Starc’s deadly bouncer hits Morgan on the helmet

Watch: Mitchell Starc’s deadly bouncer hits Morgan on the helmet: When England stepped on the field in Old Trafford on Sunday for the decider, they were markedly different from the side that had looked dismal in the first 2 ODIs. But fans who were expecting an inspired English performance were left disappointed as the hosts bundled out for 138 after choosing to bat first. And the misery didn’t end there.

The sixth ball that skipper Eoin Morgan faced was quick and short from Mitchell Starc and Morgan turned his head and tried to duck, but was struck flush on the side of the helmet. He appeared in some discomfort and after several minutes of assessment by England’s medical staff on the field, he retired hurt and did not return.

It was a perfectly directed bouncer which followed the left hander even as he tried to move away from the line. The 90mph delivery from Starc left him with no reaction time whatsoever. The concern on Australian fielder’s faces after the event was genuine as they rushed to Morgan’s assistance who was clearly unsteady after copping the blow. The physio wasted no time in getting to the middle and after some deliberation, made the right call to take Morgan off the field for more treatment.

The English management confirmed that the skipper was suffering from concussion and would not take part in the game any further, James Taylor was handed over the captaincy of the side there after.

Everyone was clearly rattled by what had transpired, given the unfortunate incident of Phil Hughes last summer. Starc in particular, looked visibly shaken as Steve Smith and Darren Lehmann consoled him.
