Watch: MS Dhoni’s bat flies off his hands: The Indian team was chasing a mediocre yet par total of 271 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, the openers failed to get past the 50-run mark and Virat Kohli came in to bat at 3. Once Rohit Sharma got out after playing another half-century knock MS Dhoni walked in at No.4. Dhoni who usually likes to hold onto the chase before going for the kill today wanted to be in control right from that start.

He started off positively, hitting his shots and collaborated for a substantial partnership with Virat Kohli. On the 3^rd ball of the 40^th over Dhoni was facing South Africa’s 5^th bowler JP Duminy. The ball was there to be hit and in MS Dhoni’s zone, he danced down a couple of steps before going for a full swing. May be by the sweat on his hands, his grip over his bat slipped and he did not connect the shot.

He had put in all his power behind the shot and since the bat missed the ball, Dhoni’s bat went flying on the leg-side. Dhoni who looked set and good enough to close the game for India with Kohli at the other end fell to the mounting pressure and he was caught in the deep off Morne Morkel in the 42^nd over on the score of 47 with India still needing 78 runs to win.
