Watch: Rahul Dravid expresses his gratitude to Virender Sehwag: Retired legend Virender Sehwag was felicitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the 4th India-South Africa Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Sehwag thanked his former India captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble along with Sachin Tendulkar for their guidance during his illustrious international career.

Rahul Dravid also had a special message for the swashbuckling opener on the day of his felicitation. In a video posted by the BCCI on Twitter, Rahul Dravid expressed his sentiments for Sehwag. He started by congratulating his former teammate on his wonderful career. Dravid went on to say that it was a privilege to play cricket with him and credited Sehwag for bringing energy and joy to the game.

He also said that it was always fun to share the dressing room with him. The India U-19 coach wished him and his family all the luck for his future.

During the felicitation, Anurag Thakur, the BCCI secretary presented Sehwag with a silver plaque memorializing his stellar achievements and contributions to Indian cricket. BCCI has also temporarily named the far-end stand at the Ambedkar Stadium end as “Viru 319” after the batsman’s highest Test score while the  DDCA is yet to name a stand or gallery of his name.

Virender Sehwag formally retired from international cricket on his 37th birthday after he made the retirement announcement via Twitter. He ended his career with over 8000 runs in Tests and ODIs for India.
