Ravi Ashwin was a central figure in India’s win in the recently concluded West Indies v India series. The 29-year old was also named as the man of the series following impressive performances with both bat and ball. However, the fact that rain played a part in the final Test which saw India lose out on the world ranking spot their arch rivals Pakistan.

Many eyebrows were raised when Ashwin was promoted to the number six spot in the batting order. This spot has been occupied by the likes of Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman in the past. Ashwin also went on to add to his century with another half-century and a century in the subsequent matches of the Test series. Apart from these achievements, it was clear that Ashwin’s bowling prowess also came to the fore when he claimed 17 wickets in the series, the highest from any bowler from both sides.

Speaking after receiving his award, Ashwin addressed his wife on why the trophy was manufactured and designed the way it had been.
