Watch: Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar star in a sporting version of the national anthem

Sport is an important part of any society and especially for a conventional one like India. Over the years there have been icons who have led the charge in each of the sport and have inspired the next generation to adopt the game. In a video by the Sports Heroes former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, batting demi-God Sachin Tendulkar feature along with Hockey icon Dhanraj Pillay.

They are accompanied by the best footballer India has produced Bichung Bhutia, Indian tennis ace and the number one doubles player in the world Sania Mirza, Olympic medallist Shooter Gagan Narang and two-time Olympic medallist Wrestler Sushil Kumar. These sporting icons from India first emphasise why sport has such a crucial role to play and then hand over the baton to a youngster who is the future of the game.

The video is produced by former cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni and Rasika Kulkarni, Abhijit Panse is the writer as well as director. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar had launched it in the year 2016 and he shared some memories of his playing days.

Sachin said, “When you sing the ‘Jana Gana Mana’, your head is always held high, but when you sing it (standing) in the centre of the ground, then…seena chauda ho jata hai (chest swells with pride). But it (singing of national anthem) goes to a different level altogether, when you are playing against Pakistan in 2003 World Cup (in Centurion), standing inside the stadium, in the middle of the group, with 60,000 people singing ‘Jana Gana Mana’.”

The makers have managed a very relatable depiction on the video as it shows the kids first get to know the game playing with their own types of equipment and in the end stars of the respective sports hand them over the gear they should be using as professionals.
