Watch: Team India delivers a heartfelt message to the Chennai flood victims: Indian cricketers Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay expressed their support for the victims of the Chennai floods disaster in a video shot by bcci.tv.
Chennai had been grappled with severe floods. The flood-ravaged city is currently struggling to get back to normal life after it experienced its worst rains in over 100 years. The deluge put the everything to a halt and has destroyed all the links to the city, claiming close to 300 lives till now.
Lakhs of people have been stranded. Relief operation is currently underway with the Army leading the operations. Many celebrities also came down to the streets to help the sufferer’s apart from donating hearty sums for the relief work. Neighboring states Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh also lent their support in the relief work along with the central government.
Cricketers Murali Vijay and Ravichandran Ashwin, who belong to this city also had nervous times as their families and friends suffered the aftermath of the flood. The players were not aware of the whereabouts of their loved one. Ashwin’s family, in particular, was reported to have been stuck in the floods. In spite of such emergency situation both of them stayed back with the team for national duty.
Ajinkya Rahane said that thoughts and prayer will always be with all the individuals and families in the city. He also said that players from our team belong from the city and their families are also currently facing tough times so there is an emotional attachment with the overall situation. He also asked everyone in the city to stay safe and help each other to overcome the problems.
R Ashwin said he was very proud of the city and praised the spirit of Chennai. He thanked his friends and also the people who came out on the roads to help other people. He felt for the families who have lost everything in the disaster. Ashwin also said that once the series is over he will definitely contribute to those people in every possible way.
Murali Vijay also shared his thoughts and said that the togetherness and optimism showed by the Chennaites motivated him to come and play. He urged everyone to stay strong and assured them that they can overcome this disaster quickly.
