Watch: Umesh Yadav strangely refrains to run out Glenn Maxwell

In the 45th over, during the all-important 3rd ODI, Umesh Yadav stunned everyone after he did not attempt a run out despite having plenty of time to have a go at the stumps.

Maxwell flicked Ishant Sharma straight to square leg and quickly went off for a single. However, Faulkner sent him back but Maxwell was halfway down the pitch. Umesh had collected the ball by then and had one stump to aim at. But, he opted not to throw the ball as there was no fielder backing up the throw. The chance was tough but, he should have attempted a direct-hit as India was searching a way to break the Maxwell-Faulkner partnership at that juncture. Another person to blame has to be the man at backward point who should have been alert and must have been there to back up the throw. Maxwell was on 76 at that stage.

India reduced Australia to 167 for 4 and then 215 for 6 and his wicket was the most crucial in as it could have badly dented Australia’s hopes of chasing the total. And, as expected, Maxwell went on to bat till the end, scoring 83-ball 96 to script a fabulous 3-wicket victory for Australia. Just like the first two ODIs at Perth and Brisbane, India got an imposing score with the help of Virat Kohli’s record-breaking century. The bowlers performed way better than the first two games, but once again failed to defend the target. Indians had their share of opportunities but in the end, Glenn Maxwell ran away with the game.
