The best method to shut the ‘criticising’ opposition is to defeat them hands down. All if’s and buts’ which followed the unnecessary questions get laid to rest. This is what exactly Virat Kohli and his brigade did on the fifth day morning by wrapping up the fourth Test at Wankhede in terrific fashion.

Despite getting dominated in the game England fast bowler James Anderson refused to accept the flaws and made some unflattering comments about Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. And, there was no way it would have gone down well with the duo.

The ongoing Anthony De Mello trophy has witnessed Virat Kohli score at an average of 128 with over 600 runs to his name including his career best 235 in the recently concluded match. Ravichandran Ashwin has also continued to be the unplayable and mean wicket taking machine and has claimed 27 wickets in 4 Tests so far.

Anderson, however, was unconvinced with all these stats and ungracious assessment suggested that Kohli and the spinners weren’t too tough to handle. Anderson felt that playing in conditions that do not exploit his “technical deficiencies” makes Kohli look superior.

“I’m not sure he’s changed. I just think any technical deficiencies he’s got aren’t in play out here. The wickets just take that out of the equation.

“We had success against him in England, but the pace of the pitches over here just take any flaws he has out of the equation. There’s not that pace in the wicket to get the nicks, like we did against him in England with a bit more movement. Pitches like this suit him down to the ground.

This comment in the presser at the end of Day four was lingering in the mind of Kohli and Ashwin. However, before any reply from the duo could come, Anderson seemed to have realised that he over spoke at that moment. In the 55th over when Anderson came out to bat as the last man, he had a few words for Kohli, The scene saw Anderson having some sort of chat with Kohli and later needed umpire’s intervention.

Fans thought things might have got heated up when Anderson walked in. But, there were no bitter words exchanged. Anderson, in fact, strangely tried to clarify his statements and asked Kohli to meet after the match. The fact was revealed after the end of the presentation ceremony when Kohli was talking with Virender Sehwag on air.

He said, “He clarified what he said (in the press conference on day four). Ashwin said that it was disappointing to hear such words from you (Anderson) because if we have played well you should accept it. Anderson felt bit guilty and asked us to talk after the match gets over. But, there’ no need to sit and talk as the scoreboard speaks about who was the superior team.”

“I don’t want to debate about my performances or Ashwin’s. I also don’t want to say England were inferior. Everyone witnessed the match and it’s quite clear which team was better. I also told Ash that we are already set to win 3-0 and should let the matter to just pass away. Let them feel that they did wrong by speaking in such manner. Anderson felt guilty, it was evident.”
