Watch: Waqar Younis’ venomous spell of reverse swing against Australia: It so happened in the 1995 SCG that Waqar Younis delivered one of the most exceptional spells of bowling that one would ever get to see. It was a thorough exhibition of reverse swing that speaks volumes of the Pakistani’s prowess in perfecting the art of reverse swing.
Greg Blewett of Australia was the first victim. Australia were stuttering and staggering at 170 for 6 when Waqar Younis came to bowl. He bowl a low full toss that reverse swung and shattered the stumps of a bamboozled Blewett. Next up was Craig Mcdermott. Waqar was pumped up by that time and continued with his deadly reverse swing. Mcdermott was lucky to survive the very first delivery he faced. But the next one was a masterclass of a delivery. He delivered a ball that pitched outside off stump which went on to cut in vigorously and made a majestic mess of the stumps.
Pakistan needed one wicket to wrap up the Australian innings. And Waqar Younis bowled a ferociously venomous full length delivery that again reverse swung, going on to hit the stumps which concluded one of the most memorable and exquisitely finest displays of reverse swing bowling that one is ever likely to see. Though Waqar was sometimes overshadowed by his even more amazing counterpart Wasim Akram, it is not an exaggeration to say that he too has left a rich legacy for many aspiring fast bowlers to follow and he was in a league of his own.
