'We are bit disappointed, it was unlucky' - Stephen Fleming on Devon Conway's dismissal owing to DRS malfunction

The Giants of the IPL – Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians locked horns with each other in the 59^th match of the ongoing season, only to see CSK ending their playoffs dream. MI, who were playing the match to end their tournament on a high, defeated CSK by five wickets to dent their hopes of moving into the next round. However, if there was one moment that turned up as the talking point of the game, it was Devon Conway not being able to take the DRS call due to a power failure at Wankhede.

The top-order failure of CSK, and especially the dismissal of Conway didn’t leave head coach Stephen Fleming with a good taste and he called it unlucky. It is to be noted that owing to a power cut at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Conway didn’t have any room of moving for DRS and Daniel Sams won the controversial LBW decision against him.

“It was a little bit unlucky, that it happened at that time. Yeah, we are a bit disappointed, but that’s still part of the game, isn’t it? But yeah, [that] sort of set off a chain of events that were not in our favor. But we should be better than that, it certainly wasn’t a great start,” said Fleming in the post-match conference.

Throwing some further light on CSK’s squad, Fleming added that they are still learning about their players and that this learning will help them in the next few games. He also asserted that there is always a very slim margin between having a great and bad season and hence, they aren’t much worried about it but will certainly work on their grey areas in the future.

“We’re still learning about our squad, as most teams are, and hopefully we can learn a lot over the next couple of games and go forward. What I can say is that there’s not much margin between having a great season and a not-so-great season. So, we’ve been through enough of these seasons to know that. So, we’re not going too much over, but we do need to improve in some areas,” he added.
