Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has hinted at bringing in experienced Mohammad Hafeez into the national squad. Inzi stated that the all-rounder, who bats in the top order may be brought in, if the team requires him. Hafeez making a comeback looks like a big possibility considering the emergency exit of skipper Misbah ul Haq.

He immediately left the venue due to a personal issue and didn’t even show up for the post-match conference. Later, it was announced that Pakistan would be without their regular skipper for the next game. Pakistan suffered two batting collapses in the recently concluded opening Test against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval Christchurch. The Misbah-ul-Haq led side were steamrolled for just 133 runs and 171 runs in two innings as they the hosts New Zealand pocketed a simple 8 wicket win to go 1-0 up in the series.

“We can bring Hafeez back into the team if we need him. Players who will underperform consistently will be removed to make way for others,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune.

When asked about what went wrong against the Kane Williamson-led side, Inzamam insisted that New Zealand wickets are different and, therefore, the team need some time to adjust.

“We were hoping for a good performance from the team but they couldn’t deliver. However, the New Zealand wickets are different and we should give some time to the team to adjust,” he added.

Inzamam, however, remained optimistic that his team would “make a comeback” in the second and final match, beginning at Seddon Park on November 25.
