The first Test between England and India has been a roller-coaster ride for both the teams. At the end of day 3, the match is evenly poised as none of the teams can say that they are ahead in the game. They had their fair share of good periods in the match but dropped catches have proved to be costly. For all the Test cricket fans, this match is a perfect treat for them as the momentum is shifting every hour with no clear-cut advantage.

Masterclass

After Virat Kohli’s masterclass, the hosts headed into the second innings with a lead of just 13 runs. The Indian bowlers impressed again in the second innings as they restricted them to 180. Sam Curran’s half-century provided the much-needed boost to England and ensured that the bowlers had something to play for.

In reply, the Indian top order failed to provide a good start yet again and Kohli’s men ended the day with 84 runs needed to win with five wickets in hand. The most important thing is that their skipper Kohli is still out in the middle and as long as he is there England know that India are at an advantage.

“We’ll go to bed dreaming about getting Kohli out first thing.” James Anderson was quoted as saying by NDTV. The fast bowler feels that no player in the world is invincible and England have the firepower to take Kohli’s wicket. “If we recover well tonight and come back fresh in the morning, we know it’s going to be 25-30 overs max one way or the other -so we can give it all we can,” he added.

Dropped catch hurting England

Drop catches by Dawid Malan has proved costly for England. A player like Kohli will pounce on the opposition if he is given a second chance. He was dropped on 21 in the first innings and went on to make an impressive 149. Anderson also added that slip catching is an area where his team has been struggling for the past two years. This match is a perfect testimony to the fact that catches win you matches.

Dinesh Karthik is on the other end with Kohli and he needs to support the captain to take his team through. He failed to open his account in the first innings but looked good in the second attempt. Day 4 is going to be extremely exciting and both the teams will be looking to start the series on a winning note.
