Amid the situation where the outbreak of coronavirus has put the world at a halt, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown to battle the pandemic. On April 3, the Indian PM had also urged the country to express gratitude to the ones who have been toiling to curb the damage caused by the pandemic.

PM Narendra Modi had asked people to switch off lights at their homes on April 5 at 9 pm and light up candles in their balcony for nine minutes. The Prime Minister‘s appeal was received well by citizens of the country. As soon as the clock struck 9, Indian citizens were spotted in their balconies while lighting diyas, candles and mobile flashlights.

However, a few individuals started bursting firecrackers to show their solidarity amid the pandemic. The insensitive move of bursting firecrackers was not welcomed by many prominent personalities including former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan.

“It was so good until ppl started bursting crackers #IndiaVsCorona,” wrote Irfan Pathan on his Twitter. However, a few people hit back at him and blasted him for raising his voice against people bursting firecrackers.

Post the criticism which the pacer received, he took a hilarious jibe at his trollers by writing– “We need fire trucks can u help? @TwitterIndia” Irfan also shared the criticism and the comments which he received on his tweet against people who lighted firecrackers.

Irfan received a positive response on his tweet and many fans suggested the pacer to ignore the trolls. Replying to a fan, Irfan wrote that he is not worried about the opinion of people. His primary concern is to stop hate from spreading. “I’m not worried abt WHAT PPL WILL SAY. PPL WHO KNOW ME AWARE OF MY CHARACTER But HATE has to stop,” responded Irfan.

Irfan Pathan has been involved in spreading awareness amid the lockdown

In these trying times, Irfan was spotted spreading awareness about the pandemic through his Twitter. Pathan, along with his brother Yusuf, have been actively involved in distributing essential items to the needy.

The Pathan duo distributed 10,000 kg rice and 700 kg potato in their hometown Baroda amid a stern situation where people are short of ration. Irfan has also posted several tweets and has urged his fans to stay indoors in the battle against the pandemic. The left-arm pacer also urged his followers to not panic and spread false news during these times.

Along with the Pathan brothers, many members of the cricketing fraternity including Sourav Ganguly, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Suresh Raina have come forward and donated to PM Cares Relief Fund to aid in the battle against coronavirus.
