While KKR may have gone back home happy having signed the destructive all-rounder for just 12 crores, it’s surprising to see Russell take a whopping 4 crore cut when he would have surely been one of the hot picks in the mega auction.
4. KKR – Varun Chakravarthy- 4 Cr cut
Although the spinner was their 2nd retention, the salary cut he had to take was accounted to a massive four crores, leading him with a contract of eight crores in hand. His underperformance in the T20 World Cup may have led to this dip in salary.
3. Delhi Capitals – Axar Patel – 3 Cr cut
With DC’s retentions involving talents in the form of Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje alongside him resulted in Axar with a three-crore pay cut as against the 12 crores he should have received as the 2nd retention for the franchise.
2. PBKS – Mayank Agarwal – 2 Cr cut
The Indian opener may have been roped in by the Kings as their first retention at 12 crores, but this resulted in him taking a pay cut of 2 crores. Retaining an uncapped player in the form of Arshdeep Singh, PBKS will enter the 2022 auction with the strongest purse of INR 72 crore.
1. Delhi Capitals – Prithvi Shaw – 0.5 Cr cut
Having retained four players led to DC dishing out 42.5 Crores from their purse as per the rules. The up-gradation of Nortje’s contract from 6 crores to 6.5 crores led to Prithvi Shaw taking a salary cut of 0.5 crores despite a stellar season.
