Bangladesh qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 but was replaced by Scotland after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to play matches in India, citing security concerns and diplomatic tensions
Being axed from the World Cup was a huge blow for fans and players alike, ending Bangladesh’s long streak of participation
Instead of dwelling on the disappointment, the BCB acted swiftly, announcing a brand-new domestic T20 competition to keep players match-ready and fans engaged.
The new event Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 will feature three competitive teams: Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI, and Duronto XI
Scheduled from 5–9 February at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, the tournament will include cultural programs before matches and offer prize money and player fees worth Tk 2.5 crore
With captains like Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Akbar Ali, and an Impact Player rule adding tactical intrigue, this competition aims to turn a setback into a bold new beginning for Bangladesh cricket
