What ignited the controversy?

During the 2nd ODI between Pakistan and Bangladesh, a run-out turned into the most talked-about moment of the game and that started a fresh controversy. The dismissal quickly triggered a big debate about the “spirit of cricket.”

The controversial moment

On the fourth ball from Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rizwan pushed the ball gently down the ground. Agha, backing up at the non-striker’s end, was outside his crease when the ball brushed his pads. He bent down, picked up the ball, and handed it back. Miraz then collected it, broke the stumps with Agha still out of his ground, and appealed for a run-out.

Salman Agha’s angry reaction

Agha looked frustrated after the dismissal and exchanged words on the field. He later suggested the act went against the spirit of the game.

Litton Das fires back

"First of all, no one came here to play a charity league; this is an international match," said Litton, hitting back at Salman, during a chat with the Daily Star.

Was the dismissal fair?

"Since the dismissal is within the rules, I don't see from any angle that sportsmanship was compromised," he asserted. "Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion. But as players, we felt that an out is an out.

Controversy bigger than the match

Even though Pakistan went on to win the match comfortably, this run-out incident stole the spotlight. Fans are still arguing about rules vs the true spirit of cricket.
