BCCI’s new rule before the IPL 2026 Auction: Foreign players will get only this much money

BCCI has introduced a new rule: no overseas player can earn more than ₹18 crore in the mini auction, even if bidding crosses that amount.

Franchises can still bid ₹25–₹30 crore, but the foreign player will receive only ₹18 crore. The rest won't go to the player.

Any amount above ₹18 crore will be transferred to BCCI’s player welfare programs, while the full bid will still be deducted from the franchise purse.

Many foreign players skip the mega auction and join only mini auctions, where teams overspend on them. This rule is meant to stop that trend.

Teams have long complained that overseas players earn huge sums in mini auctions and then pull out abruptly. BCCI introduced stricter rules to protect franchises.

This cap applies only to foreign players. If an Indian player is bought for ₹20 crore, he will receive the entire ₹20 crore without restrictions.
