Gautam Gambhir has revealed his inside conversation with Sanju Samson after leaving him out of India’s playing XI for four matches in T20 World Cup 2026.
Sanju Samson returned to the XI in the Super 8 stage and played a key role in India’s title-winning campaign.
The wicketkeeper-batter scored 97*, 89 and 89 in crucial matches against West Indies, England and New Zealand.
Gambhir said Samson was brought back to add more firepower and aggression to India’s top order.
He revealed that the decision had nothing to do with breaking the left-handed combination or handling off-spinners.
Gambhir said he informed Samson about his return while they were training in the gym, showing the trust he had in the batter.
