Asha Sobhana has played only 2 ODIs and also missed the 2025 WPL due to injury, so her absence wasn’t unexpected.
India’s squad is packed with pacers and all-rounders. In a home World Cup, a leg-spinner like Asha could have been useful, but the team combination went in a different direction.
The biggest shock – Shafali Verma is not in the 15 or even in the standby list. She has scored 644 runs in 29 ODIs.
Shafali has struggled with consistency. With Pratika Rawal doing well at the top, the selectors went with Yastika Bhatia as the backup option.
Off-spinner Shreyanka Patil had injury issues this year and also missed the WPL. Even after recovery, she didn’t make the squad.
Shreyanka had reportedly been cleared by the Centre of Excellence ahead of the squad announcement, but still wasn’t even in the standbys. Many feel she deserved a place.
