Joe Root has reached a major milestone by equalling Ricky Ponting’s tally of Test centuries.
Root brought up his 41st Test century during the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney, becoming the joint third-highest centurion in Test cricket history.
This was Root’s second century of the Ashes series, underlining his importance at the top order in a high-pressure contest.
With 41 hundreds, Root now sits behind Jacques Kallis (45) and Sachin Tendulkar (51) on the all-time list.
Since 2021, Root has scored 24 Test centuries, the most by any batter in this period, highlighting his sustained form in red-ball cricket.
With over 13,700 Test runs already, Root is edging closer to the next milestones and remains firmly in the race to climb higher on the all-time charts.
